Sometimes taking those extra few minutes for yourself after a long day is totally worth it. Inspired by a calm night stroll, this cozy capybara coloring book palette captures that cozy feeling of slowing down. Check out our palette below for inspo and put your own spin on it.

Pre-Coloring Setup

Pre-Coloring Setup

Before you start, decide how you want to use this Coco Wyo color palette. You can follow the HEX codes for digital coloring or use them as a color reference when matching shades from your own marker or pencil collection.

The Coloring Tools We Used

For this finished page, we used alcohol markers for the main colors, shading, and textured details, then added a few white gel pen highlights for stars and small finishing touches.

3.1 Using This Coco Wyo Color Palette for Digital Coloring

If you’re coloring digitally, add the HEX codes below to your app and save them as a custom palette.

You don’t need to match every color exactly. Screens can display colors a little differently, so feel free to adjust a shade until it looks right on your page.

3.2 Coloring the Page on Paper

Print the color sheet below and use it as a quick reference while you look through your markers or pencils for similar shades.

Try swatching a few options next to each color block before you start. Marker caps can look pretty different from the color on paper, so a quick swatch can make picking the closest match much easier.

Tip: If you’re using alcohol markers, place a protective sheet or thick piece of cardstock behind the page to help prevent bleed-through.

Breaking Down the Cozy Capybara Color Palette

Coloring Techniques Used

Now let’s look at how the colors come together across the page. We’ll break it down by area, with the main shades and simple techniques used in each one.

Night Sky & Background

We started with a deep midnight blue for the sky, then brought in softer blues, lavender, and a touch of yellow to keep the whole background from feeling too dark.

For the moon, we added a soft yellow glow around the edges so it feels like the light is spreading into the night sky. A few white gel pen stars and tiny highlights helped brighten everything up without taking attention away from the main scene.

Color palette: Midnight Navy → Deep Blue → Lavender → Soft Yellow

A couple of details to try:

  • Moon glow effect: Blend softer yellow tones around the moon for that soft, glowing look.
  • White gel pen highlights: Add a few stars and tiny white details to bring a bit more light into the background.

Capybara & Little Friends

Moving down from the night sky, the palette shifts into warmer browns, caramel, and cream for the capybara and its animal friends. Brighter pops of mint, orange, red, and green come in through the outfit, accessories, and bakery bag, giving the middle of the page a cheerful pop while still blending nicely with the rest of the scene.

For the shading, we used slightly darker tones around the edges and lower parts of the characters, then kept the faces, bellies, and other open areas a bit lighter. It adds just enough depth without making the characters feel too heavy against the colorful background.

Color palette: Warm Brown → Caramel → Cream → Mint → Orange → Red → Green

A couple of details to try:

  • Shading: Add a darker shade around the sides, underneath the body, or where one part overlaps another.
  • Keep some areas light: Leaving the face, belly, or center areas lighter helps the characters stand out and keeps the whole group easy to read.

Trees, Stairs & Details

Around the characters, the colors spread into the stairs, trees, railings, and stone wall.

Soft purples, blues, and pinks carry through the steps, while teal, turquoise, and brighter pinks bring more color into the trees and flowers. Warm brown and orange details on the railings help tie everything back to the characters.

For the trees and bushes, we used stippling with small dots in a few different shades to build up texture. On the stairs and stone wall, slightly darker shades along the edges and lower areas add shading and give the scene a little more depth.

Color palette: Lavender → Purple → Deep Blue → Teal → Turquoise → Pink → Warm Brown → Orange

A couple of details to try:

  • Stippling: Layer small dots in different shades across the trees and bushes. Add a few more dots in darker areas and fewer where you want it to feel lighter.
  • Shading: Use a slightly darker version of the base color along the edges of the steps, stones, and railings to bring out their shape.

FAQs

How can I match the Cozy Capybara color palette with my own markers?

Start by using the palette as a visual guide rather than trying to find an exact match. Swatch a few similar shades from your marker set, compare them with the colors in the guide, and choose the ones that feel closest.

How can I create a soft light effect like the moon glow on this page?

If you want to draw lighting effects like this, keeping the center brighter and the edges softer can make the glow feel more natural. You can use the same idea for lamps, windows, stars, or other glowing details across your page.

Can I use colored pencils instead of alcohol markers?

Yes. The palette is all about the color combinations, so you can use colored pencils, markers, or whatever coloring tools you already enjoy using.

Are there any other Coco Wyo books with a similar feel?

Yes. If you enjoy the animal friends and everyday scenes in Cozy Capybara, Cozy Friends is another one to check out. It has 45 hand-drawn pages filled with a whole crew of animal friends, simple adventures, and plenty of scenes to color your way.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
